Rainy Days and Thursdays...

Yesterday was an absolutely yucky day, weather-wise. It rained all day, was cold and windy, and I swear I saw some snow. I was feeling a little under the weather with pink eye (a side effect of working with pre school children) so I took the day off of work. After I got my eye under control, my oldest son and I decided to brave the elements and hit the local Community Thrift. We had a few other errands to run first so we were coming from a totally foreign direction. After a wrong turn (is there really such a thing?) we encountered this guy. After giving us some sage advice, he gave us directions and sent us on our way. His advice? "Stay out of the rain."
The thrift store trip did not turn up much of a vintage nature, but I did score some American Eagle jeans for my youngest son. He is at the age where it is all about the labels and I am at the age where I cannot justify paying forty dollars for a pair of jeans. An Abercrombie polo completed the outfit for a sum of $9.89 and we were both happy!!

The Proof is in the Monkey

My family loves Monkey Bread. I used to make it quite a bit when my kids were younger, but for some reason I stopped. Now that my children are older (teens and 20's), I've started making it again, perhaps to bring back a simpler time.

There are many recipes floating around for Monkey Bread, but this one is my family's favorite:

Monkey Bread

3 tubes refrigerator biscuits
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 sticks butter
1/2 cup brown sugar

Combine cinnamon and sugar. Cut each biscuit into quarters. Dip each quarter into cinnamon sugar mixture. Drop sugar-coated pieces into a well buttered Bundt pan.

In a saucepan, melt butter, brown sugar and what is left over from the cinnamon sugar mixture over medium heat. Bring mixture just to a boil; remove from heat immediately. Carefully drizzle over biscuits making sure that all are covered.

Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes. Cool slightly in pan before inverting onto serving plate.

Pull apart and eat with your hands, just like a monkey!
